The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced that the recruitment of Filipino workers via official and accredited entities in both countries will start from April 2021.
“This will begin a new phase of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries in the recruitment of domestic workers,” Saif Al-Suwaidi, Undersecretary at the UAE Ministry for Human Resources Affairs said in a statement released by state news agency WAM.
The meetings also presented the precautionary procedures implemented by the UAE to protect workers, including domestic workers, from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as its efforts to offer medical treatment to patients.
A new agreement between the UAE government and the Philippines aims to protect Filipino domestic workers, protect their right to fair wages and ensure suitable work conditions.
Labour ministries of both countries will resume hiring household workers from the Philippines from April 1. Legal recruitment of maids from the Philippines stopped in 2014, when the country barred its citizens from taking on domestic worker jobs in the UAE due to cases of negligence.
