UAE granted 11 new laws that will empower and strenghthen women’s rights

UAE passed 11 new laws that will empower women and legislative amendments to strengthen women’s rights and ensure their overall empowerment.

One of these is granting employees in the private sector a paid leave to care for the child. The UAE became the first Arab country to do this.

The country also issue a federal law that will stipulate equal wages for women and men in the private sector, if they perform the same work, or another of equal value. And repealing lenient punishment for honour killings.

A financial support amounting to about $26 million was provided to UN Women by the Emirates. Aim to strengthen its efforts to empower women worldwide.

The UAE opened a liaison office for the UN Women in Abu Dhabi in 2016 in partnership with the General Women’s Union.
