The first Arab space mission, the UAE’s “Hope” probe, is expected to reach Mars’ orbit on Tuesday, making it the first of three spacecraft to arrive at the Red Planet this month.
Landmarks across the Emirates — including Dubai Frame, the emirate’s Museum of the Future, Dubai Canal and Dhayah Fort in Ras Al Khaimah — will be lit up in red each night in dazzling tribute to the Arab world’s maiden journey to Mars.
Government accounts emblazoned with the #ArabstoMars hashtag, and on the big day Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, will be at the center of a celebratory show.
The “build it, don’t buy it” philosophy behind the mission has been instrumental in developing confidence in the UAE’s science, technology and research sectors. The Hope probe is a message of inspiration that the impossible is possible.
